  1. I want to thank you for a great read. I spent the entire day reading your book from cover to cover. My name is Gary and I am a resident, still, of Pelham Parkway. This would be the “north” side on Waring & White Plains across from both PS 96 and JHS 135. The big trek was to Columbus which was 6 whole blocks away! I was born in 1958 and originally from Crotona Park East before the entire neighborhood became “Fort Apache”.
The neighborhood has changed for the worse since the good days of the 1960s. It started around the mid 1980s. Crime has crept upwards and everyone I knew has moved or passed on. I continue to live here, one of the very last. The community board that represents this area are made up of great people who do everything in their power to keep the community safe and clean.
Where I live, I used to make Allerton Avenue a second choice of shopping after Lydig. Both streets are almost mirror images of one another with the stores, which coincidentally, end at about Barnes-Matthews Avenue. Do you remember the Pelham movie theater south of Lydig?
Anyway, I want to thank you for sharing your experience with the world. It was a very rewarding feeling to share and to go back in time to a place I would like to see again. Thank you!!!!
